Tinting
Description
Usage

Two-component anti-corrosion primer – enamel. Forms a semi-glossy coating, resistant to impact of such aggressive chemical reagents as petroleum products, oils, weak solutions of salts and non-oxidising acids. Intended for anti-corrosion protection of metal surfaces used in the industrial and marine atmosphere. Recommended for painting of metal structures, manufacturing equipment, pipe overpasses, etc. Allowed to be used for painting of concrete and plastered walls in industrial companies (including food industry) for internal works, as well as for painting of concrete floors intended for medium abrasive load. Enamel TAL base may be used as white paint or a tint it in light shades. TDL base is used for preparation of dark shades. Tinting takes place in TEMACOLOR SCALA system.

PREPARATION OF SURFACE:

Clean rust and dirt from the steel surfaces prior to painting to degree Sa 2½ or St 3.

Galvanized surfaces prior to painting must be degreased, lightly processed with finely ground sandpaper or weak abrasive jet. At the end wash, using 5% ammonia water solution and dry.

Fresh concrete and plastered surfaces may be painted not earlier than in 28 days. First, remove while lime from concrete surfaces (please, refer to a separate instruction regarding preparation of concrete surfaces for painting). Concrete must be homogeneous and, in ideal situation, it may not contain modifying additives (polymer dispersions, hardening accelerators, hydrophobizing additives, etc.) Aforementioned additives may negatively impact adhesion of primer – enamel to concrete. Thus, if precise content of the concrete foundation is unknown, a test application on a small experimental area must be performed with the following mechanic testing of adhesion. Absolute humidity of concrete may not exceed 4%. Applying EPOTOP 50 on previously painted surfaces, a test application is necessary on a small area for the assessment of interlayer adhesion.

PRIMING:

Steel surfaces are primed, using the primers EPOPRIM (please refer to the instruction for primer use). Steel surfaces used indoors may be painted without prior priming. Also in outdoors environment, EPOTOP 50 may be applied without a prior priming. The thickness of coating in this case must be at least 120 μm.

Aluminium and galvanized surfaces must be primed with the primer VL – 02. Aluminium and galvanized surfaces used indoors may be painted without prior priming.

Concrete and plastered surfaces are primed with the primer- enamel EPOTOP 50 itself that has been diluted with 10 volume % solvent 646 or 647.

PREPARATION OF PRIMER-ENAMEL FOR WORK:

Mix the primer-enamel semi-manufactured product prior to use. Add hardener: To 100 weight parts of semi-manufactured product add 20 weight parts of the hardener. Carefully mix the obtained mixture and hold for 45 min. prior to use. Dilute with solvent to required work viscosity, if necessary, using the solvents 646 or 647: 0–5 volume % – by applying with a brush or a roller; 5-10 volume % – by applying with an air spray or airless spraying devices.

APPLICATION:

Primer- enamel is applied on clean and dry prepared surfaces in 1-2 layers with a brush, roller, air spray or airless spraying devices, if the temperature of air and surface is not below +10ºC and relative air humidity greater than 85%. Drying and holding time to the application of the next layer is indicated in Table 1.
