Rust converter is intended for treatment of rusty metal surfaces before painting. It is used in cases when complete abrasive removal of rust from the surface is not possible or economically justified. The rust layer on the surface to be treated should not be thicker than 100 μm. It should be noted that the service life of the protective coating applied directly on rust will be shorter than when applied on a metal surface that has been thoroughly cleaned from rust.
Before all else, remove loose rust from the surface to be treated. A metal brush or other suitable tools may be used for this purpose. Then proceed with degreasing the surface. Stir the rust converter before use. Apply with a paint brush, roller or other suitable tool. Consumption of ANTIRUST is 5 to 10 m2/l, depending on the condition of the surface. Air temperature must not be below minus 5 °C. When applying the rust converter at temperatures above 20 °C, it is recommended to slightly moisten the treated surface within 2 to 3 hours after application. The converted rust products acquire a blue-black colour. Start subsequent painting not earlier than 24 hours after applying the converter. Primers that may be used for painting: GF-021, NOVAKOR, RIATOP PRIMER, NEOSPRINT PRIMER or VL-02. Prior to applying the primer, remove the loose reaction products from the surface and degrease it again with a solvent. Store in a tightly sealed container.
